Message from the Director -Congo Week!
One of my favorite weeks during October is Congo Week where we dedicate an entire week to learning more about the Democratic Republic of Congo; the people, culture, art, music, and history!
This year we were able to bring in various artists and performers from around Congo to share their passion with our students and staff. In individual classes, students researched and planned activities that tied to their units of inquiry. They learned Rhumba through different eras of Congolese music, played traditional drums with Papy Pemba, cooked Mikate (beignets) with Madeleine, and discussed the different provinces of Congo with our own Atelier staff. Aïcha and Pagne contests took place throughout the week with the winners recognized at the Friday ‘Congo Week Assembly’ hosted by the TASOK Student Council. Thank you to the students, staff, parents, and community members that joined us in celebrating Congo!
3-Way Conferences are coming up this Friday and principals have sent home information via ManageBac. The purpose of Three-way conferences is to celebrate students’ learning and identify goals that will improve their progress. The 3- Way conference is an internationally accepted method of giving students responsibility for their learning and strengthening the partnership between parents, teachers, and students. Thank you in advance for attending this important event!
Yours in Education,
Dan Mullen – TASOK Director
